About

The Foundation Meeting of the North Norfolk Constituency Labour Party took place at Melton Constable in September 1919 around the time of National Rail Strike. Subsequently, four Labour MPs were elected over the period 1922-1970. One of them, Edwin Gooch, served as Chairman of the Labour Party in 1955-6.
Demographic changes have made the constituency increasingly challenging. There has been a continuous decline in agricultural employment and the area is now an attractive place for retirement – it has the oldest population of any constituency in the UK.
However we have an active Labour presence and fought every seat in the District Council Elections in 2023.
